PAIA manual
Last updated: 26 October 2026
This manual is required by section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA). It tells you how to ask for records that Newsbrief holds. It follows the Information Regulator's template for private bodies, cut to what applies to a one-person site.
1. About Newsbrief. Newsbrief is a South African news website at newsbrief.co.za.
2. The Regulator's guide. The Information Regulator publishes a guide on how to use PAIA and POPIA. It is on the Regulator's website (inforegulator.org.za), and you can ask the Regulator for a copy.
3. Records we hold.
- Published posts, and the news reports and statements they were written from.
- Emails sent to us.
- Business records: invoices, bank records, tax records, and contracts with service providers.
4. Records available without a request. Everything published on the site.
5. Personal information we process. See our Privacy notice. In short: emails people send us, and the visitor data our host, Cloudflare, processes to run the site. Some of this data may be processed outside South Africa. We protect it with access controls on our systems.
6. How to make a request. Fill in Form 2 from the Regulator's website and email it to support at newsbrief.co.za. We may charge the fees set in the PAIA regulations. We reply within 30 days, as the Act requires.
7. Where this manual is. On this page, and on request by email.
