Cape Town urine-to-fertiliser system is an Africa Prize finalist
Pee-Cycling, a system that recovers nutrients from urine to make fertiliser, is one of four finalists for the 2026 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation. South African chemical engineer Dyllon Randall co-founded it.
The prize is run by the Royal Academy of Engineering. Pee-Cycling collected 3,600 litres of urine at a South Africa and New Zealand rugby game, and it is part of the City of Cape Town's stadium tender for three years. The winner will be announced at a final in Johannesburg on 28 October. The finalist and business claims come from the entrants and have not been independently checked.
