Eswatini official guilty over citizenship scheme for "Cat" Matlala
Eswatini's civil service commission found assistant regional civil registrar Nonhlanhla Malambe guilty of dishonesty and corruption. The finding followed an investigation triggered by Interpol into a scheme to give illegal Eswatini identity documents to alleged underworld kingpin Vusimusi Matlala.
Official commission documents say Malambe wrongfully registered and issued an Eswatini birth certificate to a foreign national, Vusimusi Dlamini, on February 12 2024. The documents say she did this with intent to mislead.
Malambe faced two counts of dishonesty under the Public Service Act. The commission also found her guilty of corruption.
