Former deputy police chief Sibiya loses bail bid on rape charges
Shadrack Sibiya, a former deputy national police commissioner, failed in his bid for bail on charges of rape, human trafficking and sexual grooming. The same day brought a budget promise of a fuel levy cut and a Tshwane water crisis.
The Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement included a promise to cut the general fuel levy. A briefing on the statement listed five takeaways from it.
In Tshwane, more than 400 people fell ill after water treatment plant problems. Residents of Bronkhorstspruit say the City of Tshwane did not tell them about the problems.
The Patriotic Alliance also banned its members from giving interviews to local media.
