Government to ask courts for order on asylum seeker ruling
The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Migration says the order would give Home Affairs time to build its administrative and processing capacity. Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi outlined the plan at a media briefing in Pretoria on Sunday.
Kubayi said a supervisory order would let the court keep oversight of how the Constitutional Court ruling is carried out. She said it would also give guidance on how to put the order into practice.
Government said the application aims to ensure orderly and sustainable compliance with the ruling. The Department of Home Affairs would use the time to strengthen its capacity to implement the judgment.
