Justice Madlanga urges tougher fight against corruption
Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga said at the Oliver Tambo Memorial Lecture on Friday evening that corruption could push legitimate businesses to the brink of financial ruin. He asked the courts and other anti-corruption bodies to step up their efforts.
Madlanga warned that the misuse of public power for personal wealth could destroy honest businesses. He said the courts and anti-corruption bodies must act to stop this.
He explained what he wants these bodies to achieve. In his words: "They must do this to make participation in corruption hazardous, to reduce, if not optimistically remove, profit in corrupt activity, and thus to disincentivise participation in any corrupt activity."
