Mashaba pledges 500 more metro police officers a year

ActionSA's Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba answered residents' questions on trust, campaign funding and his age in a town hall session. He also set out his campaign pledges ahead of the 4 November local government elections.

Mashaba said his age should not matter. He pitched himself as a self-funded, incorruptible mayor who can turn the city around. He also said his mayoral committee is already picked.

Mashaba promised a merit-based public service built on skills audits. He also promised more insourcing in place of tenders and labour brokers.

Mashaba was Johannesburg mayor from 2016 to 2019.
