Mashatile urges responsible voting at Tambo wreath-laying
Ongoing: Elections Hot
Deputy President Paul Mashatile asked citizens to vote responsibly in the Local Government Elections on 4 November 2026. He spoke at Tamboville Cemetery in Benoni on Tuesday, where he honoured former ANC leader Oliver Reginald Tambo.
Mashatile said responsible voting honours the sacrifices made to win the nation's freedom. He said: "Responsible voting is therefore an act of remembrance."
He also said citizens must use their right to vote responsibly. Government has a duty to address poverty, unemployment, crime, inequality and gender-based violence, he said.
Tambo died in April 1993. South Africans cast votes in the first democratic election in 1994.
