Weather Service warns of hot, dry spell across South Africa
The South African Weather Service issued a sub-seasonal outlook for 21 October to 3 November. It expects the highest temperatures in Limpopo, the Mpumalanga Lowveld, parts of the North West and Northern Cape, and northern Gauteng.
The weather service said prolonged heat and below-normal rainfall could put extra pressure on water resources, agriculture and communities that depend on regular rain. It urged people to take precautions against the heat.
The weather service also forecast extremely high fire danger for Mahikeng and Ratlou in the North West.
Parts of the western interior could turn wetter and cooler as the forecast period goes on. Meteorologist Lehlohonolo Thobela said: "Showers and thunderstorms may develop over these areas as the forecast period progresses".
