Court orders Agrizzi to pay State over R1.6 billion
A court ordered former Bosasa chief operating officer Angelo Agrizzi to pay the State more than R1.6 billion in a corruption-related confiscation order. The court found that he benefited from the unlawful activities of Bosasa.
The court rejected Agrizzi's attempt to limit the amount to money he received personally. It also found that he failed to fully disclose his financial affairs. The court found that he concealed assets, including property abroad.
Agrizzi was convicted last year on three counts of corruption and one of money laundering. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) commented on the judgment. It said the ruling sends a clear message that people who take part in corruption face jail and can lose the financial proceeds of their crimes.
