Iran's Revolutionary Guards dismiss new US smuggling crackdown
A Revolutionary Guards spokesperson, Hossein Mohebbi, said the US cannot reach its aims with Task Force Iron Gate. The US military launched the force to stop Iran moving advanced weapons and sanctioned material over land borders and through the Caspian Sea.
Mohebbi said the US cannot blockade Iran's economy or shut its trade routes. He said Tehran has made preparations and communicates closely with its neighbours.
He called the Iron Gate plan merely a wordplay. He said the Americans cannot cause economic collapse in Iran through severe economic pressure by this approach.
