Russia says it downed nearly 500 drones headed for Moscow
Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defences downed the drones as fighting flared after a truce in the Kherson region ended on Sunday. Ukrainian officials said overnight Russian strikes killed at least 26 people in a Zaporizhzhia village.
Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv regional state administration, said a strike hit a passageway between buildings at a medical facility in the Nemyshlianskyi district. Ukrainian authorities said the strike wounded 25 people. Synegubov said 200 patients will be evacuated to other medical facilities.
Kharkiv's mayor, Igor Terekhov, warned on Telegram that the city was "under a combined attack by ballistic missiles and guided aerial bombs".
The strikes came as talks between Russia and Ukraine, led by Washington, were set to resume next week, US special envoy Steve Witkoff said. The flare-up has dashed hopes of progress towards peace.
