Small molecule aids DNA repair and extends life in mice

A study in the journal Nature Communications reports a small molecule that activates a protein called KIF2C. The compound improves repair of DNA double-strand breaks in aged cells.
The authors say the compound also extends lifespan in mice with progeria, a model of premature ageing. The study is peer-reviewed, but only the abstract was available for this post. The work used cells and mice, so its relevance to people is unknown. The findings are early and far from any use in humans.
