Bomb threats force evacuation of Irish media offices
Offices of RTE, the Irish Independent group and Newstalk in Dublin were evacuated on Friday after emailed bomb threats. A Newstalk presenter said the threat to that station was deemed a hoax, and Newstalk later resumed programming.
The emailed threat said a bomb would go off within 45 minutes. RTE's programming stopped for more than one hour. The broadcaster's campus in south Dublin stayed closed while police checked it building by building.
A presenter on RTE Radio One's mid-morning news show said the email was purportedly from the same people behind hoax bomb threats on Thursday. Those threats disrupted dozens of passenger flights across Europe. This link was a claim by the presenter.
Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin told RTE in a telephone interview that the situation was worrying. He said the government takes the threat seriously.
