SACP polls strongly in Eastern Cape after leaving ANC ticket
Ongoing: Elections Hot

Early results show the South African Communist Party (SACP) with more than 6% of the vote in the Eastern Cape, third behind the ANC and the DA. The party says it is satisfied with its showing in the 2026 local government elections.
SACP First Deputy General Secretary Madala Masuku thanked South Africans and said communities responded well to the party's idea. He said the party has strong momentum but lacks the money and resources to reach its political goals. He added that the SACP made its mark despite that gap.
Xolani Malamlela, the SACP spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, said the party is humbled by the support from communities. He said the SACP has won some wards across the Eastern Cape and at national level.
The SACP contested these elections separately from the African National Congress (ANC), its former alliance partner. The results are early and may change as counting continues.
