Northern Cape first province to finish 2026 local election results
Ongoing: Elections Hot
The Electoral Commission says 91% of results in the 2026 local government elections are complete, and 150 of 213 municipalities have finished, not counting the 44 District Councils. It also warned the public about social media claims on Emalahleni.
Masego Sheburi, the commission's Deputy CEO of Electoral Operations, gave the update on counting and tallying. He said the commission hopes to finish a higher share of results in all provinces by midday. It plans to deal with the remaining results and conclude them early on Saturday morning.
The commission cautioned against social media posts about Emalahleni Local Municipality. Some posts claimed that results in Wards 4 and 23 were withheld because ballots cast exceeded registered voters. Other posts claimed a municipal official voted four times. The commission presented both as claims it sought to debunk.
