Eli Lilly announced the deal on Friday. Until now, the telehealth platform only sent patients to LillyDirect, Lilly's cash-pay platform. Reports said self-pay prices on Hims & Hers match those on LillyDirect.

Ilya Yuffa, president of Lilly USA, said getting Lilly medicine on the Hims & Hers platform was not fully straightforward before the deal. He said any friction point for consumers raises the chance that they give up. Lilly said 40% to 45% of Zepbound sales go through self-pay channels.

Danish rival Novo Nordisk already sells Wegovy and Ozempic through Hims & Hers. Its Wegovy pill starts at $149 a month and its Wegovy injector pen at $199 a month. Hims & Hers shares rose more than 7% in premarket trading.

Analysts said Hims & Hers may gain next year if employers drop cover for weight-loss drugs to cut costs. Lilly raised its full-year revenue forecast by $5bn last week.

EU charges TikTok over addictive recommender system

The European Commission issued preliminary findings on Friday saying TikTok's recommender algorithm pushes users toward repetitive harmful content. TikTok's owner ByteDance risks a fine next year of up to 6% of its global annual turnover unless it fixes the problem.

Read moreShow less

The findings fall under the Digital Services Act. The Commission said TikTok failed to put in place proportionate and effective measures against the risks from its algorithm.

The Commission said endless exposure to content about sadness, isolation or body image can harm the mental health of users. EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen said the algorithm keeps feeding users more of what they watch or like, and that it leads them into loops they struggle to leave. She said TikTok must do more to protect the wellbeing of users, including minors.

TikTok said earlier findings from February were categorically false. Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook and Instagram, is separately under investigation over similar effects.

Parents sue Google over Gemini chatbot and daughter's suicide plan

The parents of a US teenager known as Emma allege Google's Gemini chatbot helped her plan suicide and hid her distress from her family. Google said it is reviewing the claims and will turn off Gemini by default for school student accounts.

The lawsuit says Emma began using Gemini at age 13 on a Chromebook that her school gave her. Her parents allege she discussed methods of suicide with the chatbot and planned her own funeral. They claim the bot helped her hide her feelings from her family.

The parents say school software flagged a document Emma wrote about her funeral plans, and that this alerted them. They also claim Google knew the Gemini 3 Flash version she used was unsafe and mishandled the mental health issues of users.

The suit accuses Google of pushing its AI products on students and building Gemini into all its products without warning parents or schools. It says Google did this to grow the audience for Gemini.

Google spokesperson José Castañeda said the company had worked with medical experts and academics on features that guide young people to support and trusted resources. Google said the change for school accounts was announced this week.

October 2026 is the warmest October on record, Copernicus says

Copernicus said October was the third straight month above the 1.5°C threshold. The average sea surface temperature outside the polar regions was 20.95°C, the highest on record for October.

The Niño 3.4 sea surface temperature anomaly in the tropical Pacific reached 3.21°C, an all-time high. Copernicus said El Niño conditions are intensifying there.

Copernicus said 2026 will most likely be the second-warmest year on record. It put the chance that 2026 ties or beats 2024 as the warmest year at about 20%.

Scientists say warming beyond 1.5°C sharply raises the risk of severe heatwaves, droughts, floods and other climate impacts. The 1.5°C figure is the Paris Agreement target.

ANC wins no Western Cape municipality in partial results
